Eastport, Maine Vacation

Eastport, Maine Vacation
07-13-08 through 07-19-08

Sunday 07-13-08
We left Rosedale about 9:15am. Stopped for ice and gas. Also stopped for breakfast at Bob Evans Restaurant. We were on the road about 10:30am.
Traffic was pretty good, until we got into New York City, about 2pm. Very busy!! It was neat to see New York City, but not fun to drive through it.
After crossing into Connecticut we stopped at a rest area, about 3pm.
Stopped for gas In Westboro, Massachusetts. Also, ate dinner at a Friendlys Restaurant here. Back on the road at 6:45pm.
We stopped for the night in York, Maine. Stayed at the Best Western Hotel there. Arrived at 8pm.

Monday 07-14-08
After eating a quick continental breakfast at the hotel, we were back on the road at 9:30am. We ran into rain for a couple hours, as we knew we would.
We got into Eastport, Maine about 4pm. Since we didn't stop for lunch, after we checked into the Motel East, we went to dinner next door at the Happy Crab Restaurant. Then stayed at the Motel the rest of the evening. We had a great veiw from the room. Right on the water. Across the water we could see Canada. Below us, to the right, we could see a Lobster Pier. It was neat to watch the lobster boats coming in and unloading. Fog came in that night, very thick. We could no longer see Canada.

Tuesday 07-15-08
We went to breakfast at the Blue Iris Restaurant, near the Motel. Afterwards we walked around the city of Eastport (The Eastern Most City Of The United States). Very quiet city, not busy at all. We looked in the gift shops and other stores. Signed up for the Whale Watching Cruise for the next day. Also walked out onto the main pier in the city.
We then drove to Lubec, Maine (The Eastern Most Town Of The United States). We stopped at the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse (Then Eastern Most Lighthouse Of The United States). They were really big at saying the "Eastern Most" up there!! Very pretty lighthouse and area. We then drove around the town of Lubec. This area was busier than Eastport. We came to a bridge that connects the United States and Canada. We didn't have our birth certificates with us, so didn't go into Canada. We ate lunch at Uncle Kippy's Restaurant in Lubec. We then headed back to the Motel and stopped at a Walmart on the way for a few things. I picked up a couple of my birthday presents. Got the newest Luanne Rice novel "Last Kiss." Also, got some binoculars.
Still full from the late lunch, we didn't eat dinner. We stayed at the Motel all evening and sat on the balcony looking through the binoculars. Looked across to Canada. We could also see Lubec, the the right of us, where we were earlier. Saw many seagulls, of course. Also, saw a sea puffin. That was neat. When the moon came up, I got some pictures of that over the water.

Wednesday 07-16-08
We ate breakfast at Waco Diner, in Eastport. Hung around the motel all morning sitting on the balcony with the binoculars. We watched a ferry going back and forth from the Unites States to Canada. About 12:30pm we started walking to where we meet for the Whale Watching Cruise. We went whale watching on the Sylvina W. Beal Schooner. It was like a huge sail boat. Donald and I helped hoist the middle sail up. Donald had 2 whale sightings. He thinks they both were the same whale. Kevin and I didn't see any whale. We did see lots of porpoises and also lots of seals on the rocks along the coast line. Once we got out on the open water, if got very cold. Donald, Kevin and I didn't think to bring jackets and all, like everyone else. Ha!! We were shivering. Two older women gave us blankets that were on the boat.
We stopped at Rosie's Hotdog stand after the cruise for a bite to eat. Then headed back to the motel. We ordered carry out from the Happy Crab Restaurant for dinner.

Thursday 07-17-08
Donald and I walked to the main pier about 4am, to see the start of the sunrise. The sun rises very early in Eastport. Very pretty color, pink.
We ate breakfast at the Blue Iris Restaurant. This was our favorite breakfast spot.
We then drove to other areas of Eastport. Stopped at Raye's Mustard Mill.
Went back to Motel and watched scuba divers in the water.
We went out to dinner at the Eastport Chowder House. Very nice restaurant on the water. Very good, too!!
Back to motel for the night. Thick fog coming in like the first night.

Friday 07-18-08
Happy Birthday To Me! Ha!!
We left Eastport at 8am and started for Massachusetts. We got carry out from the Blue Iris Restaurant for breakfast. Stopped for ice and gas and were on way.
Like coming up we had rain for a couple hours. Got a bit heavy at times this time.
Stopped at a rest area about 2pm for pizza.
Got to our hotel in Danvers, Massachusetts about 3pm. Met my cousin Laura and her husband, Josiah at 4pm in front of their apartment. We drove to the city of Rockport and walked around. Very pretty area on the ocean. We ate dinner at the Brackett's Restaurant. Very nice with a great ocean view! We stopped for ice cream on the way back to Laura and Josiah's apartment. Then walked to the beach, which is just across the street. Climbed out on the rocks and watched the waves. Rockport is another vacation idea for us. There is much more to see and do in Rockport than in Eastport, Maine. We had a great time with Laura and Josiah. It was great seeing them again!! Back to hotel for the night.

Saturday 07-19-08
We left the hotel about 9am and headed for home. Driving through New York was very busy again. Besides that we had a good ride. Stopped at a Bertucci's in Connecticut for lunch. Got home about 6pm.
